We are closing in on the end of Second Quarter!
Next week, we will only have school on Monday and Tuesday! I wish you all a fabulous Thanksgiving full of fun and great food!
When we come back:
In Math, we will be working with Double Digit Addition again, and then turn our attention to word problems through the end of the quarter.
In Reading, we will be taking our DRA reading assessments to find our reading growth. We will be taking the NWEA district test again to see how much we've grown. We will also be working on asking and answering questions with Nonfiction, and finding the Main Idea and Details in Nonfiction.
In Writing, we are starting a research-based informational piece on mammals.
In Social Studies, we are going to start learning about economy.
Our next Tiger Pride will be December 14th, and our Winter Parties will be the last day of the school year, December 21st.
Next week is Parent Teacher conference week!
Your student should have come home with a note showing when I have your conference time recorded. Please let me know if any thing has changed and you need to schedule another time.
Don't forget, Fall break starts next Friday! No school from November 1st-November 7th.
Thank you so much for your help with the fall party last week! The kids had so much fun.
We are ending our first quarter and I am impressed at how much your students are growing and learning. It's great to see them so excited for school everyday. Thank you for instilling a love for learning in them at home.
Next quarter we will be tackling subtraction within 100, reading and writing nonfiction, and taking a look at cultures and economy.
PS. For Halloween week, we could use 3 small boxes of toothpicks and 2 boxes of cheap cotton swabs for a Science activity. If you are able to donate, let me know :)
Next week is Red Ribbon Week:
Monday, PJ day
Tuesday, Fake Injury day
Wednesday, Western wear
Thursday, Wear red
Friday, Tiger wear
Tiger Pride Assembly will be Friday, October 26th at 2:30.
We are wrapping up quarter one: Finishing our personal narratives, Adding within 100, Finding Key Details in stories, and Asking questions about texts.
Your students have made so much progress this quarter! I'm so proud of them.

Our Fall Party will be Friday, October 19th, at from 11:45-12:30.

Tuesday, October 9th, Picture Day. Forms went home last week. Please return them or order online before Tuesday if you would like pictures.
Thursday, October 11th, 6pm Parent Info Night.
If you have not signed up for a Parent Teacher Conference, let me know and I will find a slot for you!
Thanks so much.
It was so great to see you at Leader in Me night and at the Assembly!
This week, your student's DRA reading score is coming home, along with their first NWEA score. We talked about the Reading data on the NWEA score, and made goals for becoming better readers. If you need help finding books that interest your child, these two sites are great resources:
Paper grade cards reporting Math, Reading, and Writing will be shown at conference time. If you have any questions before then, please let me know!
PS: Just a reminder that we have snack time in the morning!
PPS: We could use some extra highlighters for Reading and Writing :)
Spirit Week Reminders:
Onesie Wednesday! (PJs)
Tacky Tourist Thursday!
Willard Pride Friday!
For the Homecoming Parade, we will be walking students to a designated spot on the parade route and walking back after the parade. If you choose to watch with your child and take them home, you will need to watch from our designated spot and check them out from the office afterward.
Also, the district has decided to postpone introducing the EMPOWER grading program, and to use alternate grade reporting for this quarter. I will be showing a paper grade card at conference time and will be able to further explain our new grading system.
Here's an example of what a Target Level 3 would look like for first quarter reading:
This target will guide our focus in Reading Instruction. Receiving a 3 as a grade will show the reader can do these things, a 2 will show they can do most, a 1 will show that they still need help.
Let me know if you have questions!
We are all settled in to Second Grade and are finding out what we need to work on to be successful this year! We are rating our learning with Proficiency Scales. Ask your student what they know about Proficiency Scales, or check out this link: https://www.willardschools.net/Page/2040
Our Target goals for this quarter are:
Other things we are doing:
We have two four day weeks!
Don't forget there is no school on Friday or Monday for the Labor Day weekend.
Friday shirt orders and money are due by Thursday the 30th.
If you have not let me know how your child would get home on a weather-related or emergency dismissal day, a form will be coming home with your child this week. Please fill it out and return it as soon as possible.
This week we will be diving into our math books, building our writing stamina, and working on our Phonics skills.
Let me know if you have any questions!
We had a great first week!
I'm so impressed with your students' manners and helpfulness! They are a great group.
This week we start easing into curriculum, and remembering how to "do school."
Our beginning goals are: Mental addition and subtraction within 20, Building our Reading Stamina, and Writing complete sentences.
Please let me know if you have any questions!
